Why Do We Celebrate Bonfire Night? 🔥
Every year on 5 November, people across the UK celebrate Bonfire Night — also known as Guy Fawkes Night or Fireworks Night.
The tradition goes all the way back to 1605 and the Gunpowder Plot, when a group of conspirators planned to blow up the House of Lords during the State Opening of Parliament.
Their plan would have killed King James I along with many members of Parliament.
Although Guy Fawkes became the name most closely associated with the plot, he wasn’t actually the mastermind. Robert Catesby was at the centre of the conspiracy, while Fawkes was given the job of guarding the gunpowder stored beneath Parliament.
On the evening of 4 November 1605, the cellars beneath the House of Lords were searched.
Guy Fawkes was discovered there with the gunpowder, and the plot was stopped before Parliament opened the following day. Parliamentary records describe 36 barrels of gunpowder being found beneath the House of Lords.
More than 400 years later, we still remember those events with bonfires, fireworks and gatherings every 5 November.
A Cosy Bonfire Night 🎆🔥
For many of us today, Bonfire Night is less about plots and Parliament and more about wrapping up warm, heading out with the family and watching the sky fill with colour.
There’s something special about standing outside on a chilly November evening with your coat zipped up, watching fireworks explode overhead while a bonfire burns nearby.
And, of course, a hot drink definitely helps!
Free Bonfire Night Family Colouring Page

This first colouring page captures that classic Bonfire Night feeling — families gathered together, a glowing bonfire, fireworks filling the sky and hot drinks to keep everyone warm.
It’s a lovely page to colour after a Bonfire Night event or while having a cosy evening at home.
Fireworks: The Best Part of Bonfire Night? 🎇
For a lot of children — and plenty of adults too — the fireworks are the part everyone waits for.
Huge bursts of colour, rockets shooting into the night sky, sparkling trails and the occasional enormous bang that makes everyone jump!
Fireworks have become one of the most recognisable parts of modern Bonfire Night celebrations, alongside bonfires, sparklers, warm clothes and seasonal treats.
Free Kids’ Fireworks Colouring Page

This page has larger, simpler shapes that are perfect for younger children.
There are fireworks, a bonfire and happy children wrapped up in their winter hats and scarves, making it a fun little activity for kids around Bonfire Night.
Did You Know? Guy Fawkes Wasn’t the Leader
Guy Fawkes is the person everyone remembers, but Robert Catesby was the central organiser of the Gunpowder Plot.
Fawkes had military experience and was trusted with guarding the explosives underneath Parliament.
The conspirators had placed 36 barrels of gunpowder in an undercroft beneath the House of Lords, ready for the opening of Parliament on 5 November 1605.
After the plot was discovered, Parliament passed an Act establishing 5 November as an annual day of thanksgiving.
Over the centuries, the way people marked the date changed, but bonfires and eventually fireworks became traditions that are still familiar today.
It’s also where the famous words come from:
Remember, remember the fifth of November…
A line that many of us in Britain have known since childhood.
When Bonfire Night Starts Feeling Like Christmas 🎄🎆
There’s another reason I love this time of year.
Bonfire Night falls right at that wonderful point when autumn starts turning into Christmas.
Halloween has finished.
The evenings are darker.
The coats, hats and scarves have come out.
Christmas lights are beginning to appear.
Festive displays are arriving in the shops.
And suddenly a November evening watching fireworks with a hot chocolate doesn’t feel very far away from Christmas at all.
That’s exactly why I wanted these colouring pages to mix the two.
Christmas Market Under the Fireworks ☕🎄
Imagine wandering through a cosy Christmas market, wrapped up against the cold, holding a hot chocolate while fireworks light up the sky above you.
That sounds like a pretty good November evening to me!
Free Christmas Market Fireworks Colouring Page

This page has a little more detail than the children’s design and is perfect for older children or adults who enjoy relaxing with a colouring page.
You’ll find festive market stalls, winter hats, Christmas decorations, hot drinks and plenty of fireworks waiting to be coloured.
What If Bonfire Night Came to the North Pole? 🎅🎇
Now we’re entering Christmas Everyday Club territory!
We know the elves are busy preparing presents, checking lists and getting everything ready for Christmas Eve…
But surely they’re allowed a little break?
So I started wondering what Bonfire Night at the North Pole might look like.
Perhaps Santa lets the elves finish early, everyone grabs a hot chocolate and they head outside Santa’s Workshop to watch a huge North Pole fireworks display.
Which brings us nicely to colouring page number four…
Free North Pole Fireworks Colouring Page

Three excited elves are enjoying the fireworks outside Santa’s Workshop, surrounded by presents, lanterns and snowy North Pole scenery.
This is probably the most playful page in the collection and a lovely one for children who are already getting excited about Christmas.
Even Santa Can Stop for the Fireworks 🎅🦌
By November, Santa and the reindeer have probably got quite a lot on their plates.
Presents to prepare.
Routes to plan.
Sleighs to check.
Reindeer to train.
And an enormous Christmas Eve delivery ahead of them.
But even Santa deserves five minutes to enjoy the fireworks.
Free Santa & Reindeer Fireworks Colouring Page

Santa and his reindeer have paused beside the sleigh to watch fireworks exploding over a snowy village.
There are presents, Christmas trees, a lantern and plenty of festive details to colour.
It’s the perfect final page because by this point we’ve travelled all the way from Bonfire Night…
…to Christmas. ❤️
